Acts 16-18

CH 16 – Thing 4 wanted to know what it meant to evangelize…then he realized that we all do that…thing 1 wanted to know why Timothy had to be circumcised if he wasn’t a Jew…which led to dialogue around how anyone would know if he was circumcised…which brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “cup check”…then mom reminded the kiddos of public bath houses and how everyone bathed together…men on one side and woman on another…which made me real thankful for my shower….oh I wish you could have been a fly on the wall…as the debate about what the point of circumcision was to why his mother didn’t circumcise him since she was Jewish….who would have thought that the popular conversation for 6 chapters of Acts was going to be around getting your package wacked….thing 2 wanted to know how the disciples were chained up…thing 1 wanted to know if God made the earthquake…thing 3 wanted to know what a magistrate was while thing 2 wanted to know what a sorcerer is…which the kiddos asked questions about the “card reader” down the road…and for me…why did Paul and Silas take the beating first before mentioning they were Roman citizens…I think if it would have gotten me out of being beaten with rods it might have been the first thing I mentioned…
CH – 17 There were a lot of questions around defining certain words…cities and such…thing 3 wanted to know what offspring was and if he was from my wound meaning womb…thing 2 wanted to know about dentist and doctors in such an advanced religious society and I’m always amazed at an advanced civilization with multiple gods and yet a idol to the unknown God….
CH – 18 Thing 4 wanted to know if this is the same Titus with a book bearing his name…while thing 3 wanted to know where Corinth was….and mom wanted to know why Paul would shave his head…

Acts 13-15

CH – 13 Thing 2 wanted to know clarification on the Sabbath and why we are different now…thing 1 wanted to know what Abraham’s race was…thing 2 also wanted to know if Barnabas had always been a disciple…
CH – 14 Thing 2 wanted to know which disciple was thought to be Zeus and which was thought to be Hermes….Thing 3 wanted to know who Zeus was…which reminded me of being taught about mythology in elementary school….thinking maybe we should sprinkle in some Greek mythology for entertainment purposes…
CH – 15 Thing 2 wanted to know about circumcision…we’ve talked about this a lot…can’t wait to get to the Hebrew Bible…as with all things in the Scripture prophecy is pattern it’s a foreshadowing…God through Abraham was establishing an outward action of an inward spiritual principle…more on that on a later day…thing 3 wanted to know how to circumcision…he asked if it started with an “s” or a “c”…he also wanted to know where Silas came from…

Acts 10-12

CH – 10 Thing 3 wanted to know what devoted meant…while thing 4 was wanting to know where Ceasarea was at…Peters vision wasn’t as easy to explain as I thought it was going to be…and trying to explain to the kids why we still eat bacon and sausage you can imagine how that went over…one of my dear friends was raised on a pig farm in Iowa and won’t touch the stuff…even he was no deterrent to the tasty fried meat…thing 4 was very excited God doesn’t show favoritism…its good to be a Gentile…
CH – 11 Thing 1 was under the impression everyone had to be circumcised…which led to heart warming conversation around that pleasant experience once again…thing 3 thought it was pretty cool that all of Cornelius’ household was saved…Antioch was he first place where the followers of Christ were called Christians…a title given by Gentiles that meant followers of Christ or little Christ…
CH – 12 Thing 4 wanted to know what unleavened bread was and what it taste like…thing 3 wanted to know when the angel struck down Herod if he tapped him or hit him…thing 2 showed some great concern about being infected with worms…while thing 3 wanted to know if they were real worms…in which thing 4 replied with you should never put worms in your nose…

Act 7-9

CH – 7 Thing 1 didn’t understand why Moses wasn’t considered ordinary…thing 2 wanted to know what exile meant….thing 3 wanted to know why Stephen was saying all of this…one of my favorite teachers, CM, once challenged our class to outline the “sermon” of Stephen…not just about what he was saying…but where he was headed…here is one key…the Children of Israel always get it wrong the first time…
CH – 8 Ok this is a pretty interesting chapter...however I don’t want to leave you under a false impression that our dialogue was about anything other than the eunuch…so what is a eunuch….why does one become a eunuch…exactly what does get cut off…and if the eunuch’s pee goes everywhere…just when you may think the kiddos are taking the doctrine too seriously we have a good ol’ talk about pee….
CH – 9 The things referred to Nest videos they’re pretty fond of for Paul’s conversion experience…man going blind while riding a donkey on the way to kill a bunch of Christians somehow has lost its luster…all though they were pretty excited about Peter raising Tabitha from the dead…

Acts 4-6

CH – 4 Thing 2 recognized that these men were normal and uneducated but they took notice that they had been with Jesus…while thing 3 was wondering why people were laying money at the disciple’s feet….the things thought it was pretty neat for everyone to sell all that they had to meet the needs of one another….interesting dialogue around the church and giving…thing 3 wanted to know why sell possessions when they could just let the poor people come and live with you…which brought the kids to ask if they should continue saving the money they have for things that they want or for giving to the poor…what amazing kiddos we have been blessed with…
CH – 5 Ok so the things are pretty shocked at the death of Ananias and Sapphira…to be honest this is still one of those stories that’s tough to process…thing 2 wanted to know why the early church met in homes…she went on to ask if the different homes was in reference to different homes – big, small, tall, short…she also wanted clarification on the different Judas’ in Scripture….thing 3 randomly asks if Luke was a mid-husband….same school of thought as mid-wife…not sure where that came from….
CH – 6 Thing 2 wanted to know if there was anything else to drink in Jesus time besides water and wine….like apple juice…thing 3 wanted to know if Stephens face looked like an angel why they kept stoning him….

Acts 1-3

CH – 1 Thing 2 wanted to know what a zealot was…while thing 3 was confused...Luke states he, being Matthias, was numbered among the 11…thing 3 thinks it should have stated he was numbered among the 12….the imagery that Scripture paints of Judas’s death was a bit overwhelming for the things…bursting open in the middle and his insides pouring out is a shade graphic for the things…thing 3 wanted to know why the priest didn’t just take the money back….irony…it would be illegal….paying a traitor….6 illegal trials….and a false death sentence is ok…but taking back a bribe…they were above that….
CH – 2 Thing 3 wanted to know what it meant to be someone’s footstool…while thing 2 wanted to know the significance of the feast of Pentecost….the things asked a lot of questions around different languages…how people heard them in their own language…thing 3 wanted to know about the corrupt generation…
CH – 3 Thing 2 with some concerns about her dogs, we have two Boxers, wanted to know if Jesus was taking animals with Him when He comes back…thing 4 as usual noticed a shorter chapter…

CH – 20 Thing 4 wanted to know who moved the stone away from the tomb…thing 3 wanted to write the word Rabbi, that Mary said, in Hebrew…thing 1 wanted to know the point of guarding the tomb...she also wanted to know if Thomas would still be blessed even though He doubted…pretty cool to think about…we’re blessed even through our struggles…
CH – 21 Mom just loved the passion of Peter…as soon as he realizes its Jesus voice He jumps into the water 100 yards from shore because he can’t wait to see Jesus…thing 3 wanted to know if Jesus asked Peter 3 times for the 3 times Peter denied Him…I must share that verse 12 has bothered me for the last several years…every time I read it I am troubled by the context…John tells us none of the disciples dared asked Him who He was because they knew it was Jesus…why didn’t Mary recognize Him…she thought he was the gardener?...Friends Scripture tells us Jesus still bears the marks of His suffering…His face is still so scarred that His closest friends didn’t recognize Him…He bares those marks for you...
